The Thai marriage visa is also called the Non immigrant “O” Visa is for those who want to visit Thailand as they have a Thai wife or Thai family such as a child living in Thailand. This visa is valid for 60 days once you enter Thailand and can be extended in Thailand for 1 year if certain financial requirements are met. The following documents are needed when applying for the Thai  marriage visa at a Thai embassy.

  • 1. Application form
  • 2. Copy of applicant’s passport
  • 3. Copy of household registration certificate
  • 4. Copy of national ID card of th
  • e person having Thai nationality
  • 5. Copy of a marriage certificate or copy of a birth certificate
In order to extend this visa while in Thailand you need to show 400,000 Thai Baht in a Thai bank account or an income of 40,000 Baht per month. You also need photos of your wedding and family photos to show that the marriage is real. There also needs to be a map to your house or apartment in Thailand where you can be located by Thai Immigration. Last but not least you need a copy of your Thai wife’s tabian baan or house papers and also a copy of the marriage certificate in Thailand or from abroad.
.
You can apply for a Thai work permit in Thailand if you hold an “O” visa and the requirements for a business would be much lower if you hold a Thai marriage visa. The visa however does not allow you to work in Thailand only to apply for a Thai work permit if you decide to work. The work permit will however invalidate you visa and once you have stopped working you need to leave Thailand and apply for a marriage visa again. Do not overstay in Thailand.
